First Step is a drug and alcohol treatment program for pregnant, post-partum and parenting women and their children. The goal of the program is to assist and support women in developing positive parenting skills while learning to live a healthy, drug and alcohol free lifestyle.*
There are three levels of care for participants: intensive outpatient, day treatment and residential. Women in the outpatient and day treatment programs attend group three to five days a week.
For women requiring a higher level of care, there is a 6-9 month residential treatment program. Women live cooperatively with one another and their dependent children while attending daily treatment services and sharing in household duties. The residential treatment program is one of the few perinatal residential programs in the State of California.
The specialized ChildCareCenter operates the same hours as the women’s substance abuse treatment groups. The ChildCareCenter cares for infants and children through age five while their mothers are attending program. The center provides assessment and structured activities to promote safe healthy child development.
Eligibility: Pregnant and/or parenting women. Priority is given to women who are pregnant and have newborns. Children 0-5 may participate in The ChildCareCenter and residential treatment program.
Cost: No woman is denied services due to the inability to pay. Women who receive TANF benefits or SSI contribute to their residential care. Funding is provided by Behavioral Health and Recovery Services, Community Service Agency and United Way.
